Untitled (Painting Narrative): Alma Colectiva Residency, Guadalajara, Mexico, 2026
A series of large-scale gestural, sculptural paintings developed into an immersive mural. The images that emerged on paper are not observed or planned but metabolized: absorbed from my walking practice, dreams, shadows and brought back out through physical mark-making.
The cutting happened after the painting, allowing figures to discover and claim their boundaries. What began as experimentation expanded to fill every wall of the studio, not by design, but by necessity and momentum.
The installation asks nothing of the viewer except presence. The figures are in states of emergence and dissolution, entering the tension of corners, pressing against each other, never fully resolved. They create conditions rather than conclusions.
I have no control over what arises when someone enters the room. As Jamie Cooper, a visitor to the studio said. “The scale, the darkness, the light, the accumulation of bodies makes it difficult to remain at a cognitive distance. The work can operate on the nervous system before it operates on the mind, and whatever surfaces in that encounter, be it recognition, unease, aliveness, grief belongs to the person standing there.”
