AMNIOTA:IX, Alma Colectiva Residency, Guadalajara, Mexico, 2026
AMNIOTA:IX is a spatial mapping of the gestational threshold and the visceral architecture of the womb. The installation explores the nine-month fetal transformation as a state of “unfolding potential” held within a temporary landscape.
A critical element of the work is liminal gap between the wall and the floor. Hand-twisted paper cords descend from the cervical circles but stop short of the forms resting below. This disconnection creates an interstice, a void that represents the Syncytium, the borderless cellular interface where maternal and fetal life negotiate existence without ever fully merging into one. I made this work to honour that which was discarded as waste and was sacred, and to the wonder of creating a life.
AMNIOTA:IX is an act of remembering.
