Between Earth and Heaven there is “Holy Bread,” 2025
Two cultural icons from Guadalajara (GDL) are presented in this sculpture, the birote (bread) and the mosaico Gudalajara. The four section, red and white tiles were installed on the sidewalks of poor areas as a beautification effort in the early 1900s. The birote originated in GDL during the second Franco-Mexican war by Pirote, a French baker. Birotes, which are used for tortes, ahogadas or as a bread for any occasion are as ubiquitous as the mosaics in GDL. Ceramic, 22 karat gold, brass, found mosaics GDL. Edition of five, 20 x 20cm, 7.9 x 7.9inches.
Exhibition: Material, 2025, Mexico City.
